Night Rating
What does the night rating allow you to do? The night rating allows you to act as pilot in command of an aircraft after official sunset until sunrise. The idea is not to fly from Cape Town to Johannesburg in a single-engine aircraft in the middle of the night; rather it permits you to adapt your time schedules, allowing you the freedom to be able to get home after dark if necessary. On the other hand you might like to get to your c rather early, requiring an early morning take off. The night rating allows you this flexibility.
Note that the 10 hours of instrument flying that you do during your night rating will count towards your instrument rating. At the end of the day you will now only have to do 30 hours for the instrument rating.
